Cinco de Mayo/Taco Care Package is Ready To Go

Hello friends!

A few posts ago I shared my decorated Cinco de Mayo care package and now I have it ready to be sent out.

After asking lovie like a bazillion times if he needed anything he is started to mention some: pj's, bars, and computer games. Some of the in-laws are going to pick out some computer games for him and thank the Lord because I have no desire to venture into that part of a store and I wouldn't have a clue what games to get.

But onto the package-

I went with a taco theme. I LOVE tacos! Delish.
Here's what's in it:
  • 1 pkg Black Beans
  • 1 pkg Mexican Rice
  • 1 jar Jalapenos
  • 1 can Chicken Tortilla Soup
  • 2 Nacho Cheese containers
  • 1 pkg Tortillas
  • 1 bag Jalapeno Chips
  • Army Sweats

Also I've been sending my letters in the packages. I figured it's easier to send them each time I send a package than in the mail each day. I still number each of them so they can stay in order but since we've been able to Skype a few times a week I've been writing less, but some is better than none.

Do you write letters and do you send them from your mailbox or in your care packages?

PS- I've noticed I'm spending more time and money getting food for my man rather than actually buying and preparing food for myself. Not sure if I'm alone in that but I think I'll have to pay a little more attention to myself lol.

Cinco De Mayo Care Package

Hello Everyone!

I had a little extra time today to spruce up some care packages so I'm excited to share the Cinco De Mayo care package I'll be sending out in a few weeks.

I wanted to make it as colorful as possible. Goal achieved? I think yes! I used some brightly striped wrapping paper that I got from Target a while back. I was worried that wrapping paper wouldn't work well but I actually like it much better than scrapbook paper. It's much easier to adhere to the box with a glue stick and if you find some festive small rolls of wrapping paper you can get a good amount for $1 or so. I also used some metallic colored letters that we had leftover from science projects. I didn't necessarily intend to do double stripes, but hey the more colors the merrier I guess. I had some striped tissue paper that I cut and fringed and attached to the bottom edges of the box. The picture doesn't show it well but it's cute and it hangs off the edge.

And my favorite part:
Inside the box are three mini pinatas I made using a toilet paper roll and more fringed tissue paper adhered with tape. The bottom that you can't see has a layer of tissue paper covering it so that it is closed and the top will too once I put some candy or confetti in there. I've seen where people attach a small string so you can pull it and the filling falls out. Not sure if I will do this yet, I'll figure out what's going inside first.

I'm hoping once lovie gets there that I can figure out whether or not he has access to a microwave because I really want to make this box a taco/nacho themed box with:
  • Flour tortillas
  • Nacho Cheese
  • Jalapenos (in a jar)
  • Green chiles
  • Microwavable Rice
  • Refried Beans
  • Black Beans
What else goes with Mexican food? Are you sending a Cinco de Mayo box?
