I finally was able to Skype lovie, two days in a row! He's all settled in to his tent and everything is starting to calm down from traveling and moving around so he can actually get some wifi.
Everyone has been asking what he wants/needs and I, too, have been anxious to find out what he wants me to send him. No such luck! The way he explained it is that they basically have everything they need and lovie is pretty minimalistic so I know it'll be a while and he would have to be really wanting something to make requests. He also said that the guys that they replaced left a whole bunch of toiletries, supplies, and other stuff so pretty much, he's good to go.
Well, that's a huge bummer to me. I mean suuuure I'm glad he's got everything he needs and gets fresh made stir-fry every night, but what am I supposed to send him? I don't want to waste money buying random things that all the military support sites say the troops need/want if lovie doesn't actually need/want these things. I'm a big foodie so all the ideas I had of sending food and stuff are kind of out the window.
So for now I guess my focus is on sending homemade food things, and sentimental things, which is hard because I don't really consider myself a sentimental person. In which case, I need ideas! YOUR ideas! What do you send you lovie that doesn't need anything, especially food and drink? I'm so food oriented, that's how I show people I'm thinking about them and that's how I feel like I'm taking care of them: I cook for them and I feed them. I know I can still send him homemade food, which I absolutely will, but I need some other ideas for care packages.
Also, any ideas for what to send for a first Father's Day? I want to make it special but I don't want to send a lot of things that he won't be able to bring back (you know the drill).
I'm feelin' desperate so give me anything you got!

Hey JC!
ReplyDeleteI'm new to this whole military care package thing (and even newer to your blog!), but I've found that my guy really likes silly stuff. Goofy notes with bad puns are always a hit. When he left most recently, I gave him a stack of notes timed for him to open one each week. The content of the note was based on something significant about that number in our relationship (how many football games we'd been to, how many cities we've visited, etc.) You could do something similar. For Father's Day, maybe a small photo album of pictures you've taken since he's left?
Hope these help a little bit! I love your posts!

Hey Rachel,
DeleteThanks so much for the ideas. I really like the idea of coming up with a list of significant things in our relationship and maybe making a little book or doing a care package of momentous or something. So glad you shared some tips and stopped by.
I like the photo album idea as well. I can't say I will or won't do that because lovie has started reading the blog but I like it, I like it a lot ;)
Hope to hear again from you soon-
