Carrots Anyone?

Hello again,

If you check out my Goals for Deployment you'll see that I want to grow some fruits or veggies myself. I did some research and decided to start with carrots. I like carrots, little man likes mashed up carrots, they seemed pretty easy, and it's the right time to plant them in my area so I gave it a try.

I got a BIG pot from my in-laws, they're awesome. It's nice and deep for my carrots! Since we're renting whatever I want to grow has to be in a pot and I didn't even know you could grow veggies in a pot but I did research on that as well and, well, you can! I set it out on the back stairs and got to work.

Since the pot is really, really big I am thinking the carrots won't go all the way to the bottom so I wanted to fill it up just a little before I put dirt in it. We had a broken Terra Cotta pot that my brother happily smashed with a hammer. The broken pieces went in the bottom and only filled the pot 1in high so it worked out great.

On to the goods! I first bought the seeds and the Moisture Control Potting Mix thinking it would be enough, but when I brought it home I realized I needed quite a bit more dirt so I went back and got the regular Potting Mix to go in as well.

I picked these seeds up at Walmart.

I put in the regular Potting Mix first and then added the Moisture Control on top. No scientific reason for that, that's just what I did. Both the pictures are with both bags of soil added.

I then sprinkled the seeds and pushed them into the soil every so slightly and watered them. In 1-2 weeks I should have little sprouts and then I will carefully move them to be about 2in apart from each other so they have room to grow. Then in about 6 weeks or so you'll be seeing more pictures of my hopefully beautiful and edible carrots!

Are you going to grow anything this year?
